The event was a very successful one. Thank you to all who helped organise this event. And a special thank you to all of you who attended and participated in all the competitions. The response for the Pongal making, fancy dress and Kabadi competitons was overwhelming. There were only 2 contestants who participated in the Kolam making competition. But on the whole it was a very enjoyable day for everyone, young and old.

On Sunday the 7th November, a seasoned Perth tradition was brought back to light. The forum of South Indian Associations were pleased to present The Deepavali Festival of lights 2011, a cultural tradition enjoyed by an estimated crowd of between 3 to 4 thousand patrons celebrating India’ s most joyous and colourful festival. After 5 years in the dark, The Forum of South Indian Association presented a fair that is familiar to many, but exceptionally better. Though the weather forecasted was dull, the entertainment and stall holders showed no signs of dampened spirits as the Perth community filtered through the colourfully alive Bush Court at Murdoch University. The fair boasted South Indian delights, from fields of Dance, music and of course the fantastic food. The stallholders were honoured to bring the Perth community a little taste of home and it definitely didn’t disappoint. As the aromas trickled through the Court, and traditional music filled everyone’s ears, there wasn’t a frown in sight.
