The Tamil Association of Western Australia is proud to present our first event for 2012! – Pongal

Pongal is a harvest festival, a traditional Hindu occasion for giving thanks to nature and for celebrating the life cycles that give us grain. Pongal is believed to bring good luck and therefore, the festival is celebrated grandly with family, friends and the wider community.
Come celebrate Pongal with the TAWA family in 2012! – Celebrations start at 10am and we promise a fun filled day! This is a FREE event, so bring your family and enjoy the festivities!
Get involved! We are currently seeking participants for the following competitions! Register your interest early to secure your spots!
Kolam Competition
The Kolam is much more than just an aesthetic art. It symbolizes happiness and prosperity. Have you been praised on your intricate and unique kolam designs? Then you should participate in this very creative competition!
Up to 3 people in a team
Entry fee : $15 per team
Competitors are free to bring in materials of their choice to draw their kolams – Rice powder, rice paste, marble powder, coloured powders, leaves and flowers and anything else! There are no restrictions! The winning team will have to exhibit the most creative kolam!
Size specifications will be sent in the next email. Meanwhile, send in your registrations to editor@tawa.org.au! Payment will be accepted on the day as well!
Pongal Cooking Competition
If you are an amazing cook, come participate in this is delicious competition!
Up to 2 people in a team
Entry fee : $10 per team
TAWA will provide competitors with a stove, pot, rice and sugar. Competitors are free to bring in extra ingredients (dhal, peppercorn, turmeric and anything else!) to make their pongal extra special! The winning team will be judged on how tasty and creative their pongal is!
