Tamil Schools in Perth

The Tamil Association of WA, with the help of hard working volunteers run 2 Tamil Schools. The South and North Tamil Schools have their classes every Sunday during the regular school terms.

All our teachers come from different countries, namely Indian, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Singapore. This diversity not only gives our children a vast variety in the teaching techniques but also gives the teachers an understanding of how our language is taught in each of their countries.

All teachers provide their services voluntarily. Apart from some token amounts of money that may be paid for travel or associated teaching aids, our teachers do this purely for the love of the language and culture.

While both schools operate individually, the principals frequently communicate with each other to organise group events like the School Concert and Sports Day.

It is important that you as a parent or member note the hard work put in by our Tamil School teachers and applaud them for their efforts.

The School Levels taught are as follows:

  • Nursery (Division 1)
  • Kindergarten – (Division 2)
  • Lower Primary
  • Upper Primary
  • Secondary

The school adopts the Tamil Instructional Material from the Ministry of Education in Singapore. While this is taught in preschool and primary for both schools, secondary education system is different in both schools.

The cost per child is approximately $200 per year.

Our Tamil schools are as diverse as our country, with student and teacher percentages spread across 4 countries where Tamil is spoken. The principals and teachers look towards continually improving everything from syllabus to teaching techniques. This is not possible with the help of all the parents. Some of the parents have been very instrumental in managing several aspects of the running of the schools. These include:

  • Collection of School fees
  • Participation and donations at school fund raisers
  • Organising with the teachers the school concert and sports events

South Tamil School

  • Classes conducted at Willetton High School – Willetton
  • Classes are conducted every Sunday from 9am to 11am
  • Approximately 70 students
  • 12 teachers
  • School fee is $100 per year and is payable within the first term

North Tamil School

  • Classes conducted at Balajura Community Hall – Balajura
  • Classes are conducted every Sunday from 2:30pm to 4:30pm
  • Approximately 30 students
  • 4 teachers
  • School fee is $100 per year and is payable within the first term
